The Spree Cycle Route runs for 368km from the sources of the River Spree in Upper Lusatia to Berlin. This tour along the Spree, which also cuts through the Lusatian Lakeland for about 62km, has natural beauty and cultural attractions in abundance.

One of the three sources of the Spree is right in the middle of a beech grove in Kottmar, and this is where the Spree Cycle Route starts. The track winds its way through the picturesque hills of the “Lausitzer Bergland“ to the fascinating UNESCO protected heathland and pond landscape of the Oberlausitz (Upper Lusatia) region.

Delightfully you begin this bicycle trip in the nice garden city Cottbus. The Spree cycle track leads you in the beginning by the Peitzer pond scenery, before you reach quite fast the fantastically nice Spreewald. Enjoy countless watercourses, smart wooden bridges and coloured small boats.

Cycling is possible on the fully signposted, varied Spree cycle path from the three springs in Upper Lusatia in Saxony, through Märkische heath and pond landscapes and lignite areas to the Brandenburg Spree Forest and to Berlin, where the Spree flows into the Havel.

May 7, 2018 · There is a bike trail that runs from the three sources of the Spree (three springs) in Ebersbach-Neugersdorf and Kottmar, in a hilly area near the Czech border, all the way back to Berlin. We decided to ride part of the trail over a 4-day long weekend.

Today you can expect an extremely beautiful route with well-developed cycle paths and you will see the Spree in different facets, such as north of Spremberg, where it is dammed to form a large lake, or in the afternoon in the Spreewald, where the Spree turns into a river labyrinth.

The Spree Cycle Path leads from the sources of the Spree in Saxon Upper Lusatia, accompanying the course of the river through Brandenburg to the outskirts of Berlin. After a visit to the Lausitz metropolis of Cottbus, you can roll comfortably through the approx. 1,000 hectare Peitzer pond landscape - into the magic of the Spreewald.
