Jul 15, 2017 · I built a 10 ft long rigid zeppelin type airship, that has not flown. The main drawback being internal cross bracing thread that requires many separate gas bags, as opposed to a single one. But from a structural standpoint the zeppelin type frame is much more rigid. All the members are 3/32" square balsa, the rest is thread (carpet thread).

Now, Im doing a 3D model in an animation package called 3Dsmax, it really isnt the right program to use, but it has a very useful scripting language which enable me to do calculations so much faster than if i had to do it using a calculator and note down all the numbers.

Sep 9, 2007 · Build log? Maybe. It started as a test ring for an approximately 1:20 scale 40' rigid airship. See photo of rigid airship section. It’s 20” diameter, 15 ¼” long with a volume of 2.77 cf. It weighs just over 4 US nickels, about 0.75 oz. The finished ship would be 10 feet long with a volume of approx 12 cf.
