I bought a 2004 polar bay 2010 with a 100 hours on it. I had heard about the gel coat problems with the boat and saw the one I was looking at it had a crack down the center of the keel.

We have a 2008 Polar 23cc with twin F-115's and the ride is a good as any other 23-25 cc on the market. Have been out 40+ miles and came back in in 3-5' seas with the Contenders, Hydra-Sports, Grady's, Sailfish,Sea Hunt and Pursuits.

Jun 28, 2012 · Im looking at a ( 2005 POLAR BOATS CENTER CONSOLE CENTER CONSOLES 19 foot ) it has a 115 F-Stroke Merc on it with less then a 100 HRs on it , its light blue in very very nice shape and i can get it for what i think is a good price .

Jun 21, 2007 · Polar stated that the gelcoat problems were solved and there were no gelcoat issues on boats purchased from mid 2005 on. The problem as Polar explained was caused by the gelcoat manufacturer. There were laws that effected the manufacturing process of the gelcoat and resulted in the altering of the chemical content etc.

My opinion is by 2007 Polar did fix the issues with this boat. As good as a boat company can and will accept responsibility, that's a whole nuther thread though. Would I buy another Polar 2300 w/a.....2007 and newer.....probably. It is a value boat. For the money, it is a good boat capable of fishing and cruising.

Polar has taken a lot of heat on here over the years, and while I agree that if I was a hard core offshore guy that I would be better off with a higher end boat, I believe that I made a good choice. The boat is good looking and is set up very, very well for what we do (mostly inshore fishing, family trips to the island/sandbar).

I fear the all-to-common spider web cracks from dropping an anchor or the cast net, and the lighter the boat the better. Granted, these boats are only maybe 200lbs heavier then the other rolled edge boats, but they are also smaller. The blue wave I was looking at was larger then the above mentioned boats.
