The Third Judicial Circuit is one of twenty trial court circuits in the State of Florida. Its main administrative offices are in Lake City. The Third Judicial Circuit operates under the leadership of Chief Judge Melissa G. Olin and Charles Hydovitz, Trial Court Administrator.

Columbia County was formed in 1832 from Duval and Alachua counties, and is located on the northern border of Florida. It was named in honor of Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America. Its county seat is Lake City. The Osceola National Forest is partially within the county as are the Suwannee, Santa Fe and Ichetucknee Rivers.

The Columbia County Courthouse, built in 1905, is an historic courthouse building located at 173 NE Hernando Avenue in Lake City, Florida. It was designed by architect Frank Pierce Milburn in the Classical Revival style of architecture.
