The speartooth shark is a medium-sized whaler shark found in the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean. It is a requiem shark (live-bearing shark) with a broadly round snout and small eyes. It has a uniformily slate-gray surface and its underparts are white.

Marine; freshwater; brackish; demersal. Tropical; 5°N - 21°S. Western Pacific: northern Australia and New Guinea (Ref. 84281). Found presumably inshore. Largest whole specimen collected was that of a female with maturity unknown, 175 cm TL. Large sets of jaws examined indicate that size can attain up to 2 m and possibly 3 m (Ref. 76952).
