Jan 8, 2015 · Neither are used. It is possible in a certain context to say "a happy new year for you". E.g., if someone says, "I hope it will be a happy new year for you." the reply could be, "I hope it will be a happy new year for you too." This is not at all typical of its use.

Apr 19, 2012 · An acquaintance of mine, Irish, said, "A happy new year" and "Happy new year" are both used, and the former is used for expressing festive mood. But I'm not so sure. Of course I know "A happy new year" used on its own is grammatically mistaken (Greeting words don't have an indefinite article.)

Dec 30, 2016 · They are for the New Year to be a good and happy one. "Best wishes" is a set phrase which means something along the lines of "I wish everything will be the best for you". If we are linking the wishes to an event, then "on" is normal.

When it is said on New Year's Eve, it means "have a happy next year" (though usually it has less meaning: it is just an exclamation of good wishes). Like post #4, I have not heard this combination of sentences. The "one" in "Have a good one."

Jan 6, 2015 · Hapy New Year, gainnini21! Somehow "Hi, Mike, Happy New Year [when writing, we use capials] too!" doesn't sound like a "first choice" among possible expressions. "And to you!" might be another 'short version'. : "Same to you!" can, depending on context, tone of voice, etc, be used to reply to an insult.
