The Southeast Lighthouse stands atop Mohegan Bluff on the Southeast Point of Block Island as the highest lighthouse in New England. The steady number of shipwrecks occurring around the island’s shores prompted a local businessman and State representative, the Hon. Nicholas Ball, to lobby the U. S. Congress to construct the Southeast Lighthouse.
