HONG KONG - Former US vice-president Mike Pence is due to attend a high-profile business conference on Jan 16 where he is expected to discuss the US elections and its implications globally, days before the swearing in of US President-elect Donald Trump.

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has visited Taipei for the first time, giving a speech in which he urged the incoming Trump administration to continue supporting Taiwan.

The United States will not abandon its allies in the Pacific and the incoming Trump administration should renew its commitment to providing Taiwan with the means to defend itself, former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said in Taipei on Friday.
