Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jelly Roll has sealed a deal to join this upcoming season of ABC’s “American Idol” as the show’s first-ever “artist in residence.” According to the network, the Nashville artist will join the show during its “Hollywood Week” episodes,

Country superstar Jelly Roll will mentor contestants starting during Hollywood Week. “Honored to be Idol’s first-ever Artist in Residence - mentoring with heart, soul and real experience,” Jelly said on social media.

American Idol viewers will see a few changes when the show returns next month. Katy Perry exited last season, and while some hoped Jelly Roll would be sitting at the judges’ table, that isn’t the case.
