Valentine's day and the whiff of chocolate and cocoa are in the air. The price of cocoa beans is setting unprecedented records on the commodities market and it will certainly turn the gift of love into a bigger financial commitment than it once was.

Money can’t buy you love — or as much cocoa as it used to, with adverse weather denting West African crops and chocolatiers adding more fillers like nuts.

Another cocoa harvest in West Africa has come up short, leading to the worst deficit in decades. That means higher prices for chocolate makers and for shoppers.
