MyNBC5 in Vermont reported that an employee of the senator’s Burlington office notified the Burlington Emergency Communications Center about the incident around 10 a.

A suspicious letter prompted a scare at Sen. Bernie Sanders’ office in Vermont on Wednesday. The letter, sent to the senator’s Burlington office, had an unknown powder substance inside.There was a large emergency response.

The Vermont HAZMAT team later determined that the powder substance was not hazardous, and there was no threat to the office.
