Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she needed the tax agency's agents to crack down on illegal immigration.

For years, Republicans, including President Donald Trump, have railed against the IRS and its cadre of armed agents.

The request comes as Trump boasts about curtailing the IRS, whose agents focus on tax violations and other financial crimes.

The secretary asked Bessent for IRS investigators who could help her department determine whether certain money flowed to human trafficking networks, or whether businesses employ illegal migrants.
