Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent talks with former US President Donald Trump, and expressed his concerns over transparency and whether the discussions aligned with those of the "Global South".

The partnership is a pillar of Washington’s strategy in the Indo-Pacific region but faces challenges on issues including illegal immigration, visas and trade deficits.

The meeting comes hours after the U.S. president signed increases on tariffs to match the tax rates that other countries charge on imports.
