Scientists say the threat of a newly discovered asteroid has risen slightly in the past few weeks, as the world's telescopes rush to track its course.

The ‘city killer’ asteroid (possibly) heading our way might spare us and slam into the Moon instead, scientists said. The space rock known as 2024 YR4 has a 2.1% chance of hitting Earth based on current observations.

YR4 does smash down on the lunar surface, the explosion might be visible from Earth and would leave a new crater on the near side of the moon
