President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday at the White House that bars transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports, just months after the San Jose State women’s volleyball team found itself in the middle of a national firestorm on the issue.

The Trump administration is investigating potential civil rights violations at two universities and a high school sports league that allowed transgender athletes to compete on women's teams, the Education Department said Thursday.

San José State University President Cynthia Teniente-Matson told Fox News Digital the school will cooperate with a federal investigation into potential Title IX violations.

The news release from the Department of Education on Thursday announcing an investigation into San Jose State for allowing a transgender player on its women’s volleyball team promoted a false narrative about the velocity of that player’s spikes and the injury risk her participation meant for other players.
