The women's prison, located near Wilmslow, England, is home to a space for new and expecting moms run by Action for Children, and Princess Kate was visiting in her role as patron of the charity. However, according to the Mirror, some prisoners shouted out remarks at the royal as she walked through the facility.

The Princess of Wales has visited a women's prison in Cheshire where she talked to inmates in a mother-and-baby unit. On a visit to HMP Styal, in Wilmslow, Catherine was shown a project designed to forge strong and healthy relationships between mothers and babies "even in the most challenging of environments".

The Princess of Wales stressed the importance of mothers wellbeing as she met inmates at a mother and baby unit in Cheshire. Kate visited the unit, which is one of three in the North of England providing inmates with support from trained staff and early years practitioners in a separate living area.

The Princess of Wales was met by shouts of “we need more funding” and “tell them the truth” from women inmates when she visited a prison’s mother and baby unit. Kate travelled to HMP Styal in Cheshire to meet inmates from the women’s prison using the unit provided by the charity Action for Children,
