The No. 7-ranked Beavers open the 2025 season with a talent-rich roster and lofty expectations after reaching the super regionals last year.

The Oregon State baseball team started its season with an 8-3 win over Xavier in Surprise, Arizona on Friday afternoon.

Eric Segura (1-0) earned the win in relief, but was hardly dominant after replacing an erratic AJ Hutcheson in the middle of an at-bat with one out in the fifth. The sophomore right-hander surrendered a sacrifice fly and allowed a run on a wild pitch in the fifth, then coughed up a solo home run in the seventh.
