Heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected late Wednesday into Thursday as a powerful storm system impacts the islands.

The severe thunderstorms were moving towards the east-northeast, and were expected to lie near Tolaga Bay, Waimata, Kanakanaia and Tauwhareparae.

Another quick band of rain or thunder will move through before midnight with lingering clouds through sunrise. Lows will drop into the upper 30s to around 40. Winds will be northwest at 5-10 mph.

Rain likely Friday afternoon/night with gusty winds up to 35 mph. Sunny weekend with above average temperatures through next week.
