The Seattle Seahawks began taking care of some offseason business this week — getting compliant with the salary cap — by restructuring the contract of defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

Fitzgerald detailed the Seahawks changed $18,745,000 of Williams’ salary to a bonus. The team also added two void years beyond the contract’s end date of after the 2026 season. That reduced Williams’ salary-cap charge from $29.1 million to $14.06 million for this year.

The Seahawks granted Leonard Williams a three-year, $64.5 million contract last offseason, and he did more than enough in 2024 to show Seattle a significant return on investment. Williams recorded 11 sacks across 16 games, becoming the first Seahawk to have double-digit sacks since 2018. His efforts earned him his second career Pro Bowl nod.

The Seattle Seahawks are in a tough spot when it comes to their salary cap situation going into the 2025 offseason. Heading into the Super Bowl, they were around $31 million over the cap in regards to effective cap space for this coming season. Today the team pulled off a move that helped them get much closer to back under the cap.
