HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings City Council voted to approve the appointment for the city’s new fire chief on Monday, 8-0. The council voted Troy Vorderstrasse as the new fire chief.

Vorderstrasse has been leading Hastings Fire & Rescue since summer 2024 when former Fire Chief Brad Starling was placed on paid administrative leave. In September 2024, Starling resigned his position.

A Hastings couple has been charged with multiple felony counts of child abuse following an investigation by police.

According to family members, Jenny Weiderholt Pine died Saturday at the age of 44. Her cause of death hasn't been released.
