A winter weather advisory was issued for parts of Vermont, with snow accumulations expected to reach up to 9 inches in some areas, prompting officials to warn residents about hazardous travel conditions.
Towns and cities across Vermont and the North Country saw several inches of snow fall on Wednesday morning, causing dozens of school delays and creating slick road conditions. As of early Tuesday morning, Snow Squall Warnings spanned hundreds of miles from Pennsylvania to Maine, covering about 1.6 million people.
It comes as the National Weather Service forecasts sub-zero temperatures the next few days.
Temperatures moderate to the mid-30s by Friday afternoon. After a dry and mostly cloudy start, a round of elevation wet snow and valley rain is likely in southern Vermont during the afternoon and evening. Lighter snow showers are likely in northern areas.
Quieter weather is expected Thursday, with morning sun giving way to more afternoon clouds. It will be cold, with highs in the teens to near 20. A few snow showers are possible in northern areas Thursday overnight, as a warm front lifts through.
