Saquon Barkley and Sam Darnold were the driving forces on two NFL playoff teams, while Daniel Jones just joined the active roster for the Minnesota Vikings.
Well, Darnold had it worse in Detroit as the Lions pummeled the Vikings 31-9 to win the NFC North and claim the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Detroit pressured Darnold a whopping 33 times, comprised of 22 hurries, two sacks and nine hits.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Daniel Jones has been signed to the Vikings’ active roster. The Vikings waived QB Brett Rypien in a corresponding move to open up the roster spot. Jones will likely serve as the emergency third quarterback on the Vikings’ gameday roster behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens.
McCarthy missed his entire rookie campaign with a knee injury that could impact his readiness next year and he has yet to take a regular season snap in the NFL. Jones could sign a one-year contract with the Vikings similar to the $10 million deal Darnold inked in 2024 and serve as a backup and/or bridge QB to McCarthy.

The loss of a still-capable bridge/back-up quarterback could be mitigated by the presence of Daniel Jones. The 27-year-old joined the Vikings mid-season on a short-term deal after being released by the New York Giants.
