The second of five storms that will slam the eastern half of the United States with snow and ice over a two week period is on the way – and this one has more snow than the first.

After a winter storm brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to a large swath of the Midwest, mid-Atlantic and Northeast this week, another one is on the way. Forecasters say the latest system is expected to sweep across the northern part of the country this weekend,

Meanwhile, a swath of the Central and Eastern U.S. was under winter weather advisory, which the NWS issues "for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning."

EST a winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service valid from noon EST until Sunday midnight EST for Midland, Bay and Huron counties.

Despite the frigid temperatures so far this winter, the amount of snowfall in Minnesota is still significantly below average.

On Wednesday at 2:48 p.m. the NWS Medford OR issued a winter weather advisory valid from Thursday 4 p.m. until Friday 10 a.m. The advisory is for Central Siskiyou County and Northeast Siskiyou and Northwest Modoc counties as well as Modoc County.
