Cincinnati must take meaningful steps to adopt best practices for activating warming centers, ensuring no one is left exposed to winter’s deadly cold.

Transformation Life Church, at 2620 McLaughlin Ave., will remain open as a warming center through noon Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Cities and organizations throughout the Pittsburgh area are going to be opening warming centers as the region is bracing for the arrival of extremely cold temperatures over the next several days.The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory that is in place through 1 p.

"Try to get them [unhoused individuals] in if you can, or tell them to stop them and make them aware that the warming centers are open. Get in. Its gonna be cold. Half the time, they don't have phones. Our folks don't have phones to keep up with the weather. We want to make sure we're saving lives at all costs."

Worcester has opened a warming center at the Worcester Public Library on Salem Street. It was open until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and will reopen Wednesday at 9 a.m. Worcester Public Schools will also have a two-hour delay on Wednesday due to the cold.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley announced an extension to the temporary overnight warming center in response to extreme cold weather expected on Wednesday.

In response to the dangerously cold temperatures, the area has warming centers options to assist individuals experiencing homelessness.

Polk County has activated its Extreme Temperature Plan due to the severe cold weather, which coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This has resulted in the closure of many usual warming centers.
