Hobart opener Mitchell Owen has produced the knock of his life, smashing 108 off 42 to steer the Hurricanes to a first Big Bash League title.

Owen and Caleb Jewell blasted a record 74 from the four-over powerplay, smashing the previous best of 64 from BBL11. The contest appeared over before the Thunder had the chance to blink, with Owen rocketing to 31 from 10, 47 from 14, and 68 from 23 at difference stages of the first five overs of the innings.

The 23-year-old Mitchell Owen had announced himself earlier in the competition with a thrilling 64-ball century against Perth Scorchers in a low-scoring encounter.
