The J. Paul Getty Museum's priceless collection of artwork, which includes paintings by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Monet and Degas, once again found itself in the path of destruction as the Palisades fire spread.

The museum, which describes itself as the “safest places for art during a fire,” is now in a mandatory evacuation zone. Officials said the galleries “are safe and protected.”

Nestled in the mountains above Los Angeles, the famed art museum is within a new evacuation warning zone as the Palisades Fire roars east. Dubbed a "beautiful fortress" and constructed of fire-resistant travertine stone, as well as cement and steel, the center has drawn museum experts from around the world to observe its safety system.

Even though the Getty Center is now under the mandatory evacuation zone as a result of the Palisades wildfire, the center says there’s no other place where its priceless art collection could be safer.
