The flood of AI news from Google comes in the wake of the launch of DeepSeek, the breakthrough Chinese AI tool that's been making headlines.

For developers, there’s also an even more efficient version of Gemini 2.0 called 2.0 Flash-Lite. This model is designed to be even more cost-efficient for applications with high throughput. However, Google says it has the same 1 million token context window as Flash 2.0.

Announced in December, 2.0 Flash Thinking rivals OpenAI's o1 and o3-mini reasoning models in that it's capable of working through more complex problems and showing how it reasons through them. Previously, it debuted in AI Studio but now has broad availability in experimental mode as a dropdown option in the Gemini app.

With the Gemini family, Google is expanding its lineup of AI models to include an inexpensive option. Google has announced several big updates to Gemini, its family of artificial intelligence models.

Alphabet's Google on Wednesday announced updates to its Gemini family of large language models, including a new product line with competitive pricing to low-cost artificial intelligence models like that of Chinese rival DeepSeek.

Flash-Lite 2 can generate captions for around 40,000 unique images at a cost of less than a dollar on Google AI Studio’s paid tier.
