The buyouts were being pushed by both President Trump and Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk as a way to drastically reduce the number of employees on the federal payroll.

Before the deadline, federal workers must decide whether to accept or reject Trump’s buyout offer. What happens to those who reject the offer and decide not to resign?
