TV’s original Laura Ingalls is speaking out about Netflix’s plans to reboot Little House on the Prairie. In an interview with EW, Melissa Gilbert, aka the Laura in the long-running NBC series from 1974-1984,

A Little House on the Prairie reboot is heading to our TV screens in a “reimagined” way! Fans received the news in January 2025 that “a new generation will have its own version” of the “treasured novels” on Netflix.

Sonnenshine is the executive producer and showrunner of the new Little House on the Prairie reboot at Netflix. Per IMDb, among her producing credits are Bunny (2000), Reversion (2008), The Vampire Diaries, Outcast, The Crossing, Archive 81 and The Boys.

Netflix has ordered a Little House on the Prairie series, 40-plus years after a long-running adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books aired its last episode on NBC. The new version comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine ( The Boys, The Vampire Diaries ).

More than 40 years since the original series concluded after nine seasons in 1983, Netflix has greenlit a reboot of the 19th century period western series, Little House on the Prairie. According to the streaming platform, the new show will be "part hopeful, family drama, part epic survival tale and part origin story of the American West."
