Where exactly in St. Pete do I pick up the Pinellas Trail, and is it paved?
A:
I would suggest you go to AAA & or a local tourist bureau & pick up a Pinellas County map. There are places along roads & in parks where you can park & pick up the trail. It is paved. Enjoy!

Define safely. You will have to leave the beach and head towards the mainland. That means you have to go over the causeway. If you are driving there it's no big deal. You can find parking and peddle wherever you want. Tip: If you are heading from Clearwater go north on the trail. That would be towards Tarpon Springs and Dunedin. If you go south towards St Pete it will get a little shady, and it isn't a very pretty ride. As far as accessing state parks...rent a car. Once you leave the trail it's not bike friendly. The trail will not take you to state parks. You can access Honeymoon, but it's a haul.
Hi Craig, I'll be vacationing on Mandalay Ave in Clearwater on the beach. Is that directly on the trail? Can I ride safely in that area to the state parks etc? Thanks Kathleen
