We walked into Museum Island not really expecting too much but very quickly did we realise how attention grabbing and full of sights this place would be. Home to a number of museums and galleries suc…Full review by tomj932

We thought we could do everything here in one day, but we were wrong. All the museums were so interesting, we lost track of time! Still worth it, though. Lots of great art and history to be found her…Full review by Meredith H
I'm a big history buff and excited to make Museum Island a big highlight in my upcoming trip to Berlin. I'm trying to get my head around how much time to allocate to each for planning purposes. Are all of the museums a similar size? Or are some much smaller than others? I'm more familiar with museums like the British Museum and the Metropolitan, so trying to gauge my expectations of time needed based on the couple of days I spent at each of those.

I didn't experience any problems with time slots. My friend and I just rocked up at the Pergamum and got in. I guess we were about an hour inside. Personally I wouldn't want to do more than one in a day, but maybe that's just me. I certainly enjoyed it, but I'm not a huge museum goer - one was enough .
Hi, I am an older adult and my fiend is older than me. I am not sure that we could do the museums on the island but I wondered if there is a boat trip that goes around the island?

Sorry for the late reply...Yes, there are many boat tours of the Spree river. We did not take on, but next time we are in Berlin, we are planning on doing a boat tour.
I will be in Berlin from October 14th to 20th. Which parts of the museum will be closed? The Pergamon mus, The temple of Ishtar? Are the Ancient Near East galleries open? How about Old National galery and Old (Greek, Roman, Etruscan art) museum? The info about what is and is not open is very murky. I appreciate your help.

All of the museums should be open with the exception that the Pergamon altar is closed for several more years, but the rest of the Pergamon is open. Don't miss it. To compensate, there is now a separate Pergamon extension that replicates the altar using a movie style screen. Its huge and 360 degrees. Don't miss that either. It is a short walk behind the Pergamon itself. Get to the museums early to avoid lines. The museum pass is a good deal if you are seeing several. Audio guides are free and superb.
